ACADEMICS:
                Accelerated Reader Program (grades 1-6)
*Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program for students that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice.  The child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace.  When finished, the student takes a short quiz on the computer.  (Passing the quiz is an indication that the student understood what was read).  Students take AR quizzes at school on a NEO 2.  Quizzing from home is not permitted.  AR gives children, teachers, and librarians feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher or librarian then uses to help a child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
Students using AR choose their own books to read, rather than having one assigned to them.  This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them.
Teachers and librarians help the kids choose books at an appropriate reading level that are challenging without being frustrating, ensuring that they can pass the quiz and experience success.  According to research, children who read at least 35 minutes a day with a 90% comprehension rate (average percent correct) on AR quizzes see the greatest gains.

Rehearsals begin in September.

               The Red & Black Teams

The students are asked to try-out at the beginning of the school year, but everyone is able to sing on one of the teams. Members of the Red Team and Black Team, who belong to St. Paul Parish, are also required to sing in the Choristers.  The teams rehearse on Wednesdays at 8:15a.m., before school in order to prepare for the 9:00a.m. Mass.  Students also receive a CD and folder so they can listen to and practice their music at home.  Mrs. Mary Kay Mollaun and Mr. Mark Niese direct the Red and Black Teams.  For more information contact Mark Niese at 419-668-6044.
